Armin Hofmann
After training as a lithographer, Armin Hofmann worked as a graphic designer and created many of his groundbreaking posters for the Stadttheater Basel and the Kunsthalle Basel. Hofmann was deeply committed to design education, teaching at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule Basel for forty years from 1947 until 1987 as head of the Fachklasse für Grafik. In 1969, he initiated the international Weiterbildungsklasse (Postgraduate Program for Graphic Design) together with Emil Ruder. Guest teaching appointments abroad included Yale University School of Art and the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. Armin Hofmann lives in Luzern, Switzerland.
